Critical Response Group, through a unique relationship between public safety experts and Special Operations veterans, adapted this communication technique to solve a similar problem in domestic crisis response. When an emergency occurs at a school, hundreds of public safety professionals may respond, the majority of which have little familiarity with the site. Almost two decades of After-Action Reports in the post-Columbine era point out that unfamiliarity with location and inability to communicate location inhibited response time in closing with active assailants and evacuating casualties. We created “Collaborative Response Graphics®” to be simple communication and collaboration tools – usable under stress – by everyone involved in an incident, from school security and administrators to responding officers and dispatchers, to communicate location both outside and inside a structure.
